A New Twist On The Classic Book Subscription Box

Stationary business, Fox & Wit, offers a unique alternative to book subscription boxes.

Who doesn't love book subscription boxes? They are super convenient and it's like receiving a present every single month! I am a big fan of these, however.... not all book subscription boxes are created equal.

Sometimes the featured books are just plain terrible or the products included are cheap. But with Fox & Wit's book-tionary boxes, subscribers won't have to worry about either of those problems. Fox & Wit is mainly a stationary company with products in many stores across the country and a product line in Papersource. Recently, the company branched out into the subscription market and created the very first book-tionary box.

What is a book-tionary box?

It's a "stationery and gift box that is perfect for all book lovers! Each month you'll received a themed box filled with at least 6-7 items of exclusive fox & wit stationery goods and a selection of high quality gift items and book merch" . This box is different from the other book subscription boxes because it focuses on providing its patrons with high quality merch, that every bibliophile will love. Many of the products are lovingly created by Mary, (CEO and mastermind behind Fox & Wit) and never fail to delight.

December's Book-tionary box theme was

"Bad Ass Females in Literature" and included some amazing items!

Products in this box

  • Wonder Woman Bookmark created by Jo Painter (exclusive to the box)

  • "Waith" Candle from Flick the Wick, inspired by Inej from Six of Crows (exclusive to the box)

  • Nina from Six of Crows art print illustrated by Stephanie Brown

  • Sarah J. Maas themed pencils, created by Fox & Wit

  • Aelin from Throne of Glass inspired incense, created by Fox & Wit

  • "Whistle While You Hustle" journal (not pictured here), created by Fox & Wit

Fox & Wit also has pins, stationary, journals, and much more! Be sure to sign up for their newsletter for extra goodies and visit the @foxandwit instagram

Meet the owner of Fox & Wit, Mary Nguyen!

When did you start your business and why?

In 2012. I had made wedding invitations for my best friend and had all this stock leftover. I decided to open up an etsy shop to sell greeting cards in order to destash. 6 years later what was an effort to clear out clutter now occupies a studio space of its own as it's grown and evolved over the years. I'm no longer an etsy shop but happily a shop of my own.

Any advice for those who want to start their own business?

Just do it. Figure stuff out along the way. Trial and error is going to happen no matter how much you prepare. Prepare to feel like you suck and stressed and like you have no idea what you're doing. It's part of the growing business pains. Chances are you DO suck at something along the way. Accept it for what it is but don't let it defeat you. There's no room for perfectionists only attitude in business. You give it your best and learn when you fail at something then keep going.

If you could change the ending to any book, what book would it be and what would you change it to?

A Court of Wings and Ruin. SPOILER!

I really wished that Amren stayed dead. Not that I didn't love her. I do. A lot. But in war and for the emotional stakes that high, a death was needed and hers would've offered the right balance between "OMG. What?!" but you don't want to hurl the book across the room like you would if it were any of the other inner circle members. Her sacrifice would've been perfect.

What's your most anticipated read?

Popular ones: children of blood and bone, TOG7. Less well known: 4th book in the blade and rose series, queen of shining sea. Seriously everyone needs to read that series. It's hands down one of my favorite series by a self published author (Miranda honfleur) that everyone should be reading.
